Family Caregiver Support Program (FCSP)

Redwood Caregiver Resource Center

Families and caregivers of cognitively impaired adults and frail elderly living in Humboldt or Del Norte County are eligible for information and referral services, family support programs, caregiver training and conferences. In addition, caregivers who qualify may receive respite and/or legal help.

Services provided by Redwood Caregiver Resource Center:

  • Specialized Information: on chronic and disabling conditions and diseases, specializing in neurocognitive disorders, aging, caregiving issues and community resources.
  • Family Consultation/Case Management Services: assessment of caregiver needs, short and long-term care planning and ongoing consultation provided by specialized family consultants.
  • Paid Respite Care: respite is designed to provide care to a loved one for a brief period of time to provide an opportunity for relief and rest for the caregiver. Respite may be provided in the individual’s home or in an out-of-home setting such as a day care center or assisted living facility.
  • Legal/Financial Consultation: funds may be available to provide limited consultation from an attorney to address various legal and financial issues related to caring for an adult. This may include planning for eligibility for public assistance programs, understanding Advanced Health Care Directives and Powers of Attorney.
  • Short Term Groups and Short Term Counseling: support groups facilitated by trained professionals help caregivers share experiences and ideas. Caregivers seeking additional emotional support may receive up to six (6) one-hour individual counseling sessions provided by clinical staff to focus on skill development and strategies to better cope with their caregiving situation.
  • Education and Training: covers practical, hands-on training in subjects related to disease-specific information, stress reduction, self-care, and related caregiving issues.
  • Link 2 Care: provides a secure Internet site offering information 24 hours a day on every facet of caregiving, including care planning, medical, legal and financial advice; online support groups, and an opportunity to “ask the expert.”
  • Professional Training: offered to professionals throughout the year. Speakers are available for community presentations.
